The Best Sim Racing Cockpits of 2024
From Wheelstands to 4080 Profile Rigs — Here’s What’s Worth Your Money This Year
Today, we’re diving into the best sim racing cockpits of 2024. I’ve tested and reviewed many of these on the channel, so instead of rehashing every detail, I’ll highlight the top picks — both the best overall and the best buy for each category.
We’ll go through four main types of cockpits:
- 🧱 Wheelstands
- 🪑 Foldable & Storable Cockpits
- 🧵 Tubular Frame Rigs
- ⚙️ Aluminum 4080 Profile Rigs
🧱 Wheelstands
🏆 Best Overall: Next Level Racing Wheelstand 2.0
This one really impressed me with its stability. Once it’s planted, it doesn’t move — even with heavier wheelbases and pedal sets.
It includes a shifter holder, a desk chair tray, and folds up neatly to save space.
It’s priced at around €230, which isn’t cheap, but it delivers real quality and versatility.
💰 Best Buy: Oplite Wheelstand GT Pro / Nano RS
A great bang-for-buck option, often found under different brand names online.
It’s sturdy, stable, and includes a shifter holder (though no chair tray).
At around €160, it’s an excellent value if you want a solid setup without breaking the bank.
Note: Going cheaper than these usually means sacrificing stability — not worth it for something your wheelbase depends on.
🪑 Foldable & Storable Cockpits
🏆 Best Overall: Playseat Challenge X – Logitech Edition
The Playseat Challenge X stands at the top for those short on space. It folds and unfolds easily, offers great ergonomics, and even comes with a gearshift mount and cable clips.
At €299, it’s not cheap, but for living room racers or apartment setups, it’s unbeatable.
💰 Best Buy: Playseat Challenge Actifit / Black Edition
At around €200, this one is widely available new and used.
It’s quick to deploy, surprisingly stable, and ideal for occasional sessions.
The only downside: the pedals aren’t fixed, which can be inconvenient with larger pedal sets like the T-LCM.
Despite that, it remains the most practical foldable rig for its price.
💡 This market deserves more innovation — there’s huge potential for portable, high-quality rigs.
🧵 Tubular Frame Rigs
🏆 Best Overall: Trak Racer TR8 Pro
This one exudes luxury.
It’s solid, comfortable, comes with many accessories, and the wheel plate adjustment system is fantastic — loosen, slide, lock. Simple and elegant.
It also looks stunning, a true centerpiece for any sim setup.
At €1000 (with seat), it’s expensive, but the quality matches the price.
💰 Best Buy: Playseat Trophy
The Playseat Trophy takes the crown this year.
The GT Omega ART has risen from €380 to nearly €500, making the Trophy the better deal.
It’s lightweight, sturdy enough for direct drive, looks great, and offers a comfortable hammock-style seat that can be adjusted for both GT and Formula positions.
At around €500, it’s accessible and globally available — truly a versatile and stylish solution.
There are still some upcoming contenders (like Rseat B1/C1 and Oplite S8), but for now, the Trophy remains the best value tubular rig.
⚙️ 4080 Extrusion Profile Rigs
🏆 Best Overall: SimXpro GT RS
Among profile rigs, this one hits the sweet spot.
It combines the sturdiness of the GT Omega Prime Lite with the style and customization of the Trak Racer TR80 Lite — but at a lower price.
It’s compact, beautifully finished, and easy to configure.
The only drawback: slightly shorter vertical profiles for wheelbase mounting.
💰 Best Buy: SimXpro GT RS (again!)
Yes — it’s both the best and the best buy in its category.
With multiple mounting points, excellent accessory options, and reasonable pricing on add-ons, it’s hard to beat.
Just remember: these rigs are heavy, and shipping costs can add up.
