Coffeeracer Play Review – The Transforming Sim Rig That Doubles as a Coffee Table
Today, I’m diving into something very unusual in the world of sim racing — a transforming sim rig that can literally blend into your living room setup: the Coffeeracer Play.
🏠 A Space-Saving Marvel
Available living space is at a premium for many of us, and Coffeeracer’s lineup is one of the most creative attempts to solve that problem. The Coffeeracer Play promises to function as both a stylish coffee table and a fully functional sim racing cockpit.

But how well does it actually perform in both roles?
⚙️ Configuration & Adjustability
Like any sim rig, configurability is key.
The pedal base of the Coffeeracer Play can slide almost the entire length of the rig’s body, allowing fine-tuned distance adjustments. The pedal plate can also be inclined to around 30°, letting you find a comfortable driving position.

The wheelbase mount is height-adjustable and can slide forward up to 10 cm for extra fine-tuning. However, inclination is limited — once locked, it can only tilt slightly, which might feel restrictive for some drivers.
Because of the compact proportions, the Coffeeracer is also suitable for smaller users and even children. The leg space between the pillars is about 45 cm, which was enough for me but might be tight for those with more muscular legs.
💺 Ergonomics & Design
It’s admittedly odd seeing someone race with their legs tucked into what looks like a coffee table, but that’s the charm of this system. One small comfort issue: depending on your seat height, your calves might rest against the front panel, which can cause discomfort over time.
When fully unfolded, the design is fairly minimalist — matte black with the signature Coffeeracer logo. It’s not a beauty contest winner when in wheelstand mode, but that’s okay — it’s meant to be folded away when not in use.
The folding mechanism feels solid but slightly stiff, requiring a bit of a wiggle to lock in place.
🧱 Build Quality
This is where the Coffeeracer Play shines.
Made entirely out of steel, the rig feels extremely durable and premium — as it should at 45 kg. Every hinge and connection feels deliberate and sturdy, clearly built to withstand repeated transformations.

The pedal base shows minimal flex even under heavy braking. The wheels, while lockable, still allow for a tiny bit of play, which can cause minor movement during intense racing sessions.
That said, among transformable or foldable rigs, this one’s stability is class-leading.
🧩 Features
The Coffeeracer Play doesn’t go overboard with features, but what’s included is practical and well thought-out:
- Heavy-duty caster wheels for easy mobility
- Cable management channels built into the frame
- A dedicated PSU tray
- And of course… its signature transformation feature — it becomes a coffee table!
When used as a coffee table, it actually looks great. I used mine in my living room for a month, and it blended perfectly. The only drawback is noise — placing objects on the metal surface can create a clang.
Coffeeracer addressed this in the Living version, which uses a wooden top to dampen sound and add warmth.
💵 Options & Pricing
The Coffeeracer Play offers several optional accessories:
- 🕹️ Shifter holder (~€117)
- 💺 Desk chair clamp (~€100)
- 🔧 Side and front mounting brackets for direct-drive wheelbases
While the accessories are high-quality, the pricing is steep — especially the shifter mount.
Pricing for the main rig:
- Coffeeracer Play – €699 (normally €799)
- Coffeeracer Living (with wood top) – from €1,180
- Coffeeracer Go – €499 (normally €599)
Availability is mainly through Coffeeracer’s official website, with warehouses in Europe and the US. Shipping can get expensive due to the rig’s weight, especially for the Play and Living models that ship fully assembled.
🧠 Final Thoughts
I’m honestly a fan of this product.
The Coffeeracer Play tackles one of sim racing’s biggest challenges — space and partner acceptance. Unlike foldable rigs or wheelstands that still take up visual space, this one completely hides in plain sight. Your partner might never even know there’s a sim rig in the room!

It’s also ideal for occasional racers or families — if you already have a dedicated rig but want a secondary setup for guests, this is a perfect choice. And unlike other foldable rigs I’ve tested, this one feels genuinely stable and premium.
⚖️ Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Extremely high build quality
- Smart transforming design
- Space-efficient and living-room friendly
- Stable for a foldable rig
- Premium materials and finish
❌ Cons
- Limited tilt adjustment for the wheelbase
- Slight movement from caster wheels
- Accessories are very expensive
- Transformation mechanism could feel smoother
🏁 Verdict
No, it’s not perfect — the mechanism could be more refined, and the wheels could use an upgrade. But the concept is brilliant and the execution already solid.
Coffeeracer is onto something big here, and for compact living spaces or design-conscious sim racers, the Play is a serious game-changer.
If you value space, design, and stealth, the Coffeeracer Play might just be the most living-room-friendly sim rig ever made.
Let’s hope more brands take inspiration from this — and maybe next time, add a bit more tilt and a little less noise.
