Trak Racer TR80S V6 Review

An innovative twist on the classic 4080 sim racing cockpit

๐Ÿ‘‹ Introduction

The 80mm aluminum extrusion cockpit has become the gold standard in sim racing. Strong, modular, expandable โ€” and usuallyโ€ฆ very predictable. Most brands stick to tried-and-tested layouts, and while rigs like the Sim-Lab GT1 Evo or GT Omega Prime Lite are excellent, innovation has been limited.

Thatโ€™s where Trak Racer steps in.

With the TR80S V6, Trak Racer takes a noticeably different design approach. This isnโ€™t just another black rectangular extrusion rig โ€” it introduces meaningful changes in footprint, pedal mounting, and overall design, without compromising rigidity or value.

Letโ€™s take a closer look.

๐Ÿ“ Pedal Mounting โ€“ A Smarter Approach

Most extrusion rigs mount the pedal tray directly to the base frame, forcing pedals very low at the front. Adjustments are possible, but often limited.

The TR80S V6 does things differently:

  • ๐Ÿ”ผ Pedal mount attached to vertical uprights
  • ๐Ÿ”ง On-the-fly pedal tilt adjustment using winged bolts
  • ๐Ÿง’ Higher pedal positioning, ideal for GT, Formula-style seating, or even younger drivers

This system allows the pedals to sit closer to seat height โ€” exactly what you want for GT and Formula cars.

One small downside:
The bolts securing the hinge to the vertical uprights are difficult to access and tighten. Itโ€™s a minor annoyance, but worth mentioning.

๐Ÿฆถ Pedal Compatibility & Rigidity

Instead of a full-width pedal tray, Trak Racer uses individual pedal mounting plates โ€” and thatโ€™s a big win.

  • โœ… Compatible with virtually all pedal sets
  • ๐Ÿ“ 50 cm of mounting width
  • ๐Ÿ”„ Works for flat, angled, and separated pedal configurations

Even with a heavy load-cell brake mounted in a separated layout, I was able to induce only a tiny amount of movement โ€” and that flex is not noticeable at all while driving.

Overall, the pedal assembly feels solid, confidence-inspiring, and well thought out.

๐ŸŽฎ Wheelbase Mount โ€“ Classic but Effective

The wheelbase mount follows a more traditional design:

  • Tray mounted to a horizontal extrusion
  • Fixed using 2ร—4 attachment points
  • Uprights connected via 2ร—2 points

Because both the tray and uprights sit in the same extrusion channel, itโ€™s possible to induce a small amount of movement if you really force it by hand.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Important:
This movement is not noticeable during actual driving.

With my Cammus C12, the rig felt completely stable. Trak Racer rates this mount for wheelbases up to 20 Nm, and based on my experience, that claim feels realistic.

๐Ÿ”ง Wheelbase Adjustability & Compatibility

The TR80S offers excellent adjustability:

  • โ†•๏ธ Height and depth fully adjustable
  • ๐Ÿ”„ 3 tilt positions, up to 45ยฐ
  • โžก๏ธ Tray slides ~5 cm toward the driver
  • ๐Ÿงฉ Compatible with nearly every modern wheelbase

I would have liked slightly more tilt range, but for most setups, this will be more than sufficient.

๐Ÿงฑ Two-Piece Base Frame โ€“ A Unique Design Choice

Hereโ€™s where the TR80S really stands out.

Most 4080 rigs use one long extrusion for the base frame. Trak Racer instead uses two separate pieces โ€” and theyโ€™re currently the only manufacturer doing this.

Why?

๐ŸŽจ Styling

Letโ€™s be honest โ€” most extrusion rigs look the same. Trak Racer took a risk here, and visually, it works. Style is subjective, but this rig definitely has its own identity.

๐Ÿ“ Variable Footprint

The base frame allows a smaller rectangle to slide into a larger one, adjusting the overall length by up to 20 cm.

  • Smallest length: 123 cm
  • Typical length: 145 cm
  • Width: 66 cm
  • Height: 74 cm
  • Upright height: 68 cm

For sim racers with limited space, this is a genuinely useful feature.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Shipping Advantages

Smaller profile pieces mean:

  • Easier shipping
  • Smaller boxes
  • Potentially lower shipping costs

Some users question rigidity compared to a single-piece base. Based on manufacturer documentation and my own testing, the frame remains very rigid.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Build Quality

Overall build quality is very good:

  • ๐Ÿงฑ Extrusions contain a solid amount of aluminum
  • ๐Ÿ”ฒ Corner brackets are well finished
  • ๐ŸŽจ Matte black finish โ€” understated, but scratch-resistant

One minor negative:
The measurement markers on the pedal plate brackets rub off easily. Iโ€™ve already shared this feedback with Trak Racer, and improvements are being considered.

Is it a real issue?
Not really โ€” once cleaned, youโ€™re left with clean black profiles.

โœจ Features & Included Extras

The TR80S comes well equipped:

  • ๐Ÿ”ด Red extrusion fillers (no color choice โ€” yet!)
  • ๐Ÿ”Œ Cable binders
  • ๐Ÿ”ฉ Plenty of bolts and mounting hardware
  • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Tools included
  • ๐Ÿ“ Leveller tool included (a personal favorite)

Color-customizable fillers would be amazing in the future, but from a logistics standpoint, I understand why thatโ€™s not currently an option.

๐Ÿงฉ Ecosystem & Accessories

Trak Racerโ€™s ecosystem is huge:

  • Motion systems
  • Belt tensioners
  • Shifter mounts
  • Drink holders
  • And much more

Recommended add-ons:

  • โœ… Seat rails (highly recommended)
  • โœ… Shifter mount (not included by default)

๐Ÿ’ฐ Price & Availability

  • ๐Ÿ’ถ Price: โ‚ฌ459
  • ๐Ÿท๏ธ Frequent promotions: โ‚ฌ400โ€“โ‚ฌ420
  • ๐ŸŒ Availability:
    • Europe
    • Australia
    • North America
    • Canada
    • South America (current or near-future)

For what you get, the value is excellent.

๐Ÿ† Conclusion

The Trak Racer TR80S V6 isnโ€™t just another aluminum profile cockpit โ€” itโ€™s a thoughtful evolution of the concept.

  • โœ… Innovative pedal mounting
  • โœ… Adjustable footprint
  • โœ… Strong ecosystem
  • โœ… Excellent rigidity
  • โœ… Competitive pricing

Trak Racer manages to push design forward without sacrificing strength, configurability, or affordability. In a crowded market, thatโ€™s no small achievement.

The TR80S V6 easily ranks among the best-performing cockpits in its class.
