CAMMUS DDWB21 Review — High-End Torque, Unique Button Box, Excellent Cooling
Today we’re looking at the CAMMUS DDWB21, a direct-drive wheelbase delivering 15 Nm of torque and positioned firmly in the higher-performance segment.
🏗️ First Impressions — Heavy, Bulky, and Premium
The first thing that stands out when unboxing the DDWB21 is its weight and bulk.
This is often a great sign for build quality, and here it absolutely is.
The design is minimalistic:
- Black aluminum shell
- Clean white CAMMUS logo
- Industrial, functional look
But the big difference compared to all other wheelbases I’ve reviewed is the integrated button box.
🎛️ Integrated Button Box — A Rare and Refreshing Feature
The built-in button box includes:
- Rotary encoders
- Multiple push-buttons
- And my personal favorite: mechanical switches

Every input feels sturdy.
Buttons illuminate when pressed—always a nice visual confirmation.
If there’s one area for improvement, it’s the push-buttons:
They could use a more tactile “click”.
Also, the color variety is a bit loud for my personal taste. A more uniform color scheme (like the power button) would make it look more premium. Luckily, a sticker sheet can easily fix this.
Still, CAMMUS deserves credit for doing something different from the rest of the market.
🧱 Mounting and Compatibility
You can mount the base via:
- 4 pre-drilled underside holes
- Side slots
Important note:
I couldn’t mount it on the SimXPro or Trak Racer wheelbase brackets without drilling new holes.
Keep this in mind when planning your rig.
Rear connectivity includes 8 RJ ports, intended for future peripherals.

Compatibility: PC only.
Current price: 500 USD / 500 EUR.
🏎️ The CAMMUS GT1 Steering Wheel — Surprisingly Premium
The wheel I tested with the base is the CAMMUS GT1, and the first thing I did was… smell it.
A full 30 seconds of leather bliss.
I’m glad CAMMUS chose real leather instead of Alcantara.
Build & Features:
- 32 cm — larger than most “entry” wheels
- Thick stitching, excellent finish
- Adjustable carbon magnetic shifters
- Bright ring lighting on the buttons
- No display, no rev LEDs — and I don’t miss them
- No D-pad, which I do miss for menu navigation

At 200 EUR, this wheel is honestly a bargain.
🕹️ Driving Experience — Smooth, Detailed, and in the Sweet Spot of Power
I tested the DDWB21 across several days in multiple games.
General Feel
The base delivers:
- Very good detail
- Plenty of torque
- Smooth and realistic resistance
- Excellent surface feedback
- Strong immersion without feeling overwhelming
At 15 Nm, this base sits right in the immersion sweet spot for many users.
Other reviewers sometimes claim that fast-corner detail is lacking.
Personally, I didn’t feel that.
Maybe I’m not yet burned into the tiny nuances like more experienced professional sim racers are, but for my level, the detail was more than satisfying.
I especially loved:
- The struggle against torque in corners
- The subtle vibration through the frame
- The realism of going off-road
It felt sensible, grounded, and never overdone.
🧪 Software — Good Foundation, Rough Edges
The CAMMUS software is simple and easy to understand:
- Adjust all force-feedback parameters
- Firmware updates
- Game compatibility list
- Helpful explanatory tooltips
It’s not visually polished, but everything works.
However:
The default profiles are not great.
You must tweak settings to unlock the wheelbase’s full potential.
A future improvement would be preset profiles that automatically tune the base when selecting a game.
🚗 BeamNG — Where This Wheelbase Truly Shines
BeamNG is my favorite test environment because it simulates real-world driving so well.
And here… the DDWB21 absolutely excelled.
- Road detail is fantastic
- Steering feels natural and light at realistic speeds
- Return-to-center is instant
- Grass, gravel, tarmac — all surfaces feel distinct
- Crashes reveal the full 15 Nm power (careful with those wrists!)
The “river climbing” experience was unforgettable—one of the most immersive moments I’ve had in sim-driving.
🌡️ Thermals — Excellent Cooling for Long Sessions
After long test sessions, the base was only slightly warm.
Because CAMMUS uses:
- Active cooling
- Passive cooling from the housing
This combination dramatically reduces overheating risk.
Heat is the enemy of electronics, so this is a huge win for longevity.
🧩 Market Position & Availability
CAMMUS as a brand is still growing, and availability is limited.
Warehouse locations include:
- USA
- Saudi Arabia
- France
- Spain
If you live in those regions, you get great pricing.
Otherwise, you must factor in shipping from China + import tax.
A 500€ base can quickly become 700€, putting it close to strong competitors.
And competition in the DD market is fierce—especially with Fanatec’s recent aggressive offers.
Still, even with the added cost, it’s hard to find a wheelbase with:
- This power
- This build quality
- Integrated button box
- Active cooling
- Excellent steering feel
…for anything close to the price.
🎯 Conclusion — CAMMUS Should Have More Fans
The DDWB21 is an impressive piece of hardware.
Even though my personal preference is 8–10 Nm for everyday driving, this 15 Nm base helped me understand why so many sim racers want more power.
CAMMUS clearly knows what it’s doing:
- Excellent quick release
- High-quality construction
- Great wheel
- Unique button box
- Proper cooling
- Real attention to detail
They don’t cut corners.
The biggest issue is availability—not quality.
As soon as they expand worldwide logistics, CAMMUS will be a serious competitor in the DD market.
