CAMMUS C12 Review – Compact Powerhouse With Premium Feel
Today we take a deep dive into the CAMMUS C12 — the successor to the C5, and one of the most exciting new direct drive wheelbases on the market.
Before we start, a big thank you to CAMMUS for providing a test model of the C12. For once, I had the premiere — and what a start it is!
📦 First Impressions & Design
When unboxing the C12, you immediately notice CAMMUS has taken a more traditional approach this time.
The C12 includes a 30 cm round leather (or leather-like) steering wheel, with a GTS version also planned.

It features:
- An external brushless cooling fan
- Mounting via two T-shaped brackets (rig mount)
- Optional desktop clamp for table setups
🧩 Compact and Clean
The depth of the base is just 6.5 cm — incredibly compact.
This allows you to position your monitor very close to the wheel, creating a more immersive cockpit setup.

🎨 Styling
Design-wise, it’s sleek and minimalistic, with subtle accents and a premium matte-black finish.
All materials feel high-end, and nothing looks out of place or “budget.”
💡 Lighting
The lighting setup is one of my favorite parts:
- All buttons are individually RGB-programmable
- Includes a retro-style speedometer
- Bright, customizable rev bar
The result is a setup that looks professional yet visually striking.

⚙️ Technology & Engineering
Under the hood, the C12 packs serious torque:
- Constant Torque: 12 Nm
- Peak Torque: 15–16 Nm
That’s impressive for its class.
🧠 Innovative Motor Integration
CAMMUS achieved this by integrating the button hub directly into the motor housing, making it a structural part of the motor — a concept borrowed from robotics.
This design improves responsiveness and reduces latency.
It’s a clever piece of engineering and one of the reasons the C12 feels so natural on track.
🔩 Build Quality & Components
The build quality is simply excellent.
- Almost entirely metal construction
- Magnetic shifters (non-adjustable distance)
- Mechanical buttons with satisfying tactile clicks
- Two sturdy rotary knobs next to the display (the only plastic parts)
- Soft-touch stitching and premium-feeling rim material
Everything about the C12 screams quality.
The only downside: if you use a larger custom wheel (e.g., 33 cm), the fixed shifters can feel a bit out of reach.
🎮 Controls & Layout
The C12 comes loaded with functionality:
- 🔘 10 buttons
- 🔄 6 rotary encoders (4 with push function)
- 🎮 2 mini joysticks, with the left one acting as a mouse emulator — a surprisingly useful feature!
Every element feels solid and deliberate. You can tell CAMMUS didn’t cut corners here.
🧠 Driving Experience
🏁 In Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC)
Starting at 70% power was… ambitious. I quickly had to drop it to 50%, but even then, the detail blew me away.
The C12 combines strength and subtlety beautifully:
- You feel centrifugal forces mid-corner
- Kerbs hit with realistic jolts
- Road texture variations are clear and convincing
It’s a night-and-day improvement over the older CAMMUS LP8, which had brute power but lacked finesse.
The C12 is refined, precise, and immersive.
🧭 In BeamNG.drive
This is where I truly fell in love with the C12.
Driving through Italy’s winding mountain roads, the steering felt smooth, fluid, and realistic — the closest to real-world driving I’ve experienced in a sim so far.
Whether tackling tight corners, mountain climbs, or heavy trucks, the feedback was dynamic and balanced.
It’s smooth when it needs to be, violent when you make mistakes — just like a real car.
🧰 Software & Customization
When I first reviewed CAMMUS hardware, the software felt rough around the edges.
Now, it’s much improved and genuinely enjoyable to use.
The C12 control software includes:
- Clear explanations for every setting
- Easy-to-use interface
- Bluetooth app support (though I personally prefer PC software)
📱 Mobile App
CAMMUS also offers a Bluetooth-connected app for adjusting settings — handy if you enjoy tweaking from your phone.
🖥️ Compatibility & Ecosystem
Currently, the C12 is PC-only.
There are rumors on Reddit about future console support, but no official timeline yet.
As for the ecosystem:
- Two pedal sets available
- One additional steering wheel option
It’s still basic, but growing — and thanks to standard mounting holes, you can fit aftermarket wheels easily.
💸 Price & Value
Here’s where CAMMUS really shakes up the market.
At $549 / €507, you get:
- A 12 Nm direct drive base
- A high-quality 30 cm steering wheel
- All-metal construction and lighting
For comparison:
- The Simagic Alpha Mini offers 10 Nm, without a wheel, for $539
That makes the C12 exceptional value for money.

From the moment you open the box, the CAMMUS C12 radiates quality.
From the leather steering wheel to the mechanical buttons and refined force feedback, it’s an incredible piece of hardware.
