CAMMUS Epedal Review — The First Steering Wheel with Built-in Throttle and Brake

Hello my friends, and welcome to a new review!
Today we’re looking at another CAMMUS innovation — the Epedal.

At first glance, it looks almost identical to the CAMMUS C5 wheel, so this review doubles as both a review and a versus comparison between the two.

🧩 Design & Build Quality

The Epedal follows the same futuristic design language that we first saw on the C5.
Its layout remains an acquired taste — sleek, modern, and slightly unconventional.

  • Buttons: Decent, but they lack tactile feedback — there’s no satisfying click when pressed.
  • Rotary knobs: Excellent feel and precision, sturdy and responsive.
  • Shifters: Among the smallest I’ve ever tested, yet quiet and smooth in operation.

Both the buttons and shifters are made of plastic, while the center plate is carbon fiber framed with a chrome ring. The wheel frame and base housing are made of aluminum, and the upholstery is a soft leather or leather-like finish that feels great in hand.

🔴 Cosmetic Differences from the C5

At first sight, they seem nearly identical — but a few subtle details set them apart:

  • Ribbon color: Red on the Epedal, yellow on the C5.
  • Display: The Epedal now has a fully blacked-out screen (same functions, modern look).
  • Button alignment: CAMMUS fixed the slightly tilted button alignment seen on the C5.
  • Stitching: The Epedal uses a softer, thinner thread, improving comfort for long drives.

It’s clear that CAMMUS listened to community feedback and refined the small details.

⚙️ Technology & Performance

Under the hood, the Epedal shares the same servo motor system as the C5:

  • Constant torque: 5 Nm
  • Peak torque: 7 Nm

The force feedback quality remains unchanged — precise, consistent, and full of detail.
CAMMUS continues to surprise with just how good this base feels at such a low price point.

But there’s one major new feature: the Epedal system itself.

🦶 The Epedal Function — Accelerate and Brake with Your Thumbs

This is where CAMMUS breaks new ground.
The Epedal integrates two pressure sensors into the steering wheel — one for acceleration and one for braking.

It works on the same principle as a load-cell pedal:

The harder you press, the higher the input signal.

You can accelerate and brake using your thumbs or fingers — a completely new way to drive.

🎮 Driving Experience

At first, it feels strange. You need a bit of training and muscle memory.
After some time, you begin to find a rhythm, and surprisingly, lap times start improving.

Precision is impressive — I could match the same control I usually get from a traditional pedal set.

However, I did notice one issue:

  • Constantly pressing the accelerator thumb can cause finger strain or cramps on long stints.
  • The brake side is fine, since it’s only used intermittently.

💡 Optimization Tips

The system works best when paired with lower steering ranges (around 540° or less).
For wide-range games like BeamNG, Euro Truck Simulator, or ATS, it becomes awkward because of changing hand positions.

The CAMMUS software allows for full customization:

  • Adjust minimum and maximum thresholds.
  • Modify acceleration and brake curves.
  • Reassign the finger triggers to act as a clutch or handbrake if preferred.

My advice:
➡️ Reduce the pressure needed for full acceleration to avoid thumb fatigue.

🧠 Software & Compatibility

The CAMMUS software suite has matured nicely.
You can tweak torque, damping, friction, steering range, and now also the Epedal pressure curves.

Compatibility:
🖥️ PC only — no console support is planned at this time.

You can’t currently swap the steering wheel for another CAMMUS model, but 3DRAP and other third-party companies already offer compatible GT-style wheels and enhanced shifters.

⚠️ Known Issues & Durability

The Epedal is still new, so no widespread issues have been reported yet.
For the C5, some users experienced:

  • Firmware update glitches (not uncommon across brands).
  • Fragile shifters that could break under excessive pressure, especially for users with larger hands.

Both Epedal and C5 share the same small plastic shifters, so handle them gently.

💰 Price & Value

💵 Epedal: $279
💵 C5: $249

That’s a $30 difference for the added Epedal feature.
Whether it’s worth it depends entirely on your use case.

🏁 Conclusion

CAMMUS once again proves it’s not afraid to innovate.
The Epedal is the first steering wheel with integrated acceleration and braking, and while not everyone will need it, it definitely expands accessibility and portability in sim racing.

👍 Ideal for

  • Drivers on a budget who want an all-in-one unit.
  • Travelers who move setups between locations.
  • Players with disabilities or limited leg use.

👎 Less ideal for

  • Traditional sim racers with full pedal sets.
  • Long-session racers who may experience thumb strain.

If you want maximum realism, the C5 remains the better long-term buy for $30 less.
But if you value innovation, portability, or accessibility, the Epedal is an absolutely fascinating step forward.
