Turtle Beach Multi-Shift review – Shut up and take my money
A surprisingly premium 3-in-1 shifter at a budget-friendly price.
๐ Introduction
The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Multishift enters the market at 129โฌ on the Turtle Beach website โ and with their newsletter discount, that drops another 10%.
Through Amazon and other resellers, prices float between 110โ115โฌ, making it one of the most affordable premium-feeling shifters available.

For comparison:
- MOZA HGP โ 159โฌ
- Thrustmaster TH8A โ ~190โฌ
From a pricing standpoint alone, the Multishift already starts strong.
๐ Compatibility & Testing
๐ฎ Platform Support
- PC โ Works via wheelbase or USB directly
- Xbox โ Works only when connected through a Turtle Beach wheelbase
- PlayStation โ Not supported
I tested it in:
- Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC)
- BeamNG Drive
- Taxi Life Simulator
No configuration issues, no detection problems, no quirks.
โ๏ธ Build Quality & First Impressions
๐งฑ Materials
- Full aluminum knob โ cool-to-touch, grippy, premium
- Quiet internal mechanism
- Solid-feeling housing

The first standout feature?
๐ Itโs quiet. Very quiet.
Compared to the Simagic XB1 or Thrustmaster TSS Sparco โ both notoriously loud โ the Multishift is practically silent.
This is a huge plus for any late-night sim racer with sleeping family members nearby.
๐ Sequential Mode
๐ฆ Crisp, Fast, and Silent
In ACC, the sequential mode felt excellent:
- โก Instant shifting
- ๐ฏ No missed shifts
- ๐ Minimal noise
- โฉ๏ธ Clean return-to-center
- โ Knob shape makes it easy to grip firmly
For someone who rarely uses a sequential shifter, the experience was pleasantly surprising โ responsive, consistent, and immersive.
๐ข Handbrake Mode
Also for the handbrake mode, there was little to remark.
- No perceptible input delay
- Smooth travel
- Easy to grab because of the aluminum knob
- Axis shows correctly in BeamNG and other titles
The only caveat:
๐ You can still push the lever upward โ but this did not impact gameplay.
Even if you’re not a rally driver (yet), itโs a valuable addition to the package.
๐จ H-Pattern
In BeamNG, the H-pattern provided:
- Smooth gate transitions
- Satisfying โslottingโ effect when entering gears
- Zero accidental shifts
- Nicely defined gate positions
- A premium feel far above its price point
The shifter feels car-like, not plasticky or hollow.
Reverse gear uses a push-down mechanism, which is rare in this price class and feels great.
As for negatives?
Aside from personal preference regarding knob size โ none worth mentioning.
๐จ Switching to H-Pattern
๐ One of the fastest conversion systems in sim racing
Switching modes is incredibly fast:
- Unscrew the knob
- Flip the side switch
- Done โ now in H-pattern mode

โฑ๏ธ Total time: under 1 minute
This is genuinely impressive.
๐งฐ Mounting Options
๐ฉ Two Ways to Mount
- Hard-mounting to your cockpitโs shifter plate
- Using the integrated desk clamp
The clamp is extremely well-designed:
- Large contact surface
- Zero slop even on thin plates
- Top-mounted tightening (hidden latch) โ no awkward under-desk tightening
- Secure and clean solution
This is one of the best integrated clamps Iโve used on a budget shifter.
๐งโ๐ป Software & Firmware
In the Turtle Beach software, you can:
- Calibrate the H-pattern
- Check the button inputs
- Update the firmware
Firmware updates were fast and error-free โ a welcome improvement compared to some of their wheelbase updates.
๐ Final Verdict
๐ฌ โJack of all trades, master of noneโ does not apply here.
The VelocityOne Multishift is a rare gem:
A budget-priced, premium-feeling, multi-function shifter that executes all three modes extremely well:
- Sequential
- H-pattern
- Handbrake
While it lacks heavy adjustability for resistance tuning, the overall feel is excellent, the construction is solid, and the experience is smooth, quiet, and immersive.
๐ Sim Tourist Buyerโs Choice Award
This is one of the few devices Iโve tested where I honestly have no meaningful improvement suggestions.
At around 110โ130โฌ, itโs not only good โ itโs exceptional value.
