3DRap Mods Review — Upgrading the Thrustmaster TH8S and Fanatec CSL Pedals on a Budget
⚙️ A Closer Look at the Thrustmaster TH8S Shifter
The Thrustmaster TH8S is one of the most budget-friendly H-pattern shifters available today.
It’s compatible with Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, and when connected to a Thrustmaster wheelbase, it works directly on consoles — a big plus.
Out of the box, the TH8S shifts smoothly and easily… maybe too easily. There’s little mechanical resistance, so it feels more like sliding through gears than actually engaging them. That’s where 3DRap’s magnet mod comes in.
🧲 Magnetic Shift Mod — Adding Realistic Feedback
3DRap designed a clever magnet-based modification to give the TH8S a more mechanical feel when shifting gears.
Instead of that slippery smoothness, you now get a bit of friction and tactile resistance, closer to what you’d expect in a real car.

🧩 What It Does:
- Adds subtle resistance between gears
- Gives each shift a more “mechanical click” feel
- Can be tuned by adding or removing magnets for different strengths
By default, the feeling is quite subtle, but you can make it stronger with additional magnets.
It doesn’t turn the TH8S into a high-end shifter — but it’s a fun, noticeable improvement that makes every shift more satisfying.
🔧 Shifter Knob Adapter — Small Upgrade, Big Feel
Another mod 3DRap offers is an adapter that allows you to mount any standard automotive shift knob onto the TH8S.
And honestly, this one makes a huge difference.

The stock Thrustmaster knob is plastic — lightweight, functional, but not exactly premium.
Swap it for a leather or metal knob, and the feel changes immediately. The tactile grip, the weight, the comfort — it all improves immersion.

💡 Tip: I used a leather knob I bought for €7 from a local auto parts shop.
The 3DRap adapter costs around €11, and installation is quick and easy.
➡️ Combined with the magnetic mod, the shifter now feels far superior to its stock form — and honestly more enjoyable than even the more expensive Thrustmaster TH8A in my opinion.
🦶 Fanatec CSL Pedal Clutch Mod — Finding the Bite Point
Next up: the Fanatec CSL clutch modification by 3DRap.
This kit adds a realistic “biting point” to the clutch pedal — something that’s normally reserved for premium pedal sets like the Fanatec V3.

🎯 How It Works:
3DRap’s kit introduces a ramp and roller system inside the clutch pedal mechanism:
- At first, you press against a smooth spring.
- Then you hit the biting point — a slight resistance plateau.
- After that, the pressure decreases toward the end of the travel.
The result is a more realistic clutch feeling — subtle but effective.
It’s not as pronounced as the V3 pedals, but for €32, it’s an excellent way to enhance the stock CSL pedals.

If I could tweak one thing, I’d prefer the bite point to be a bit more outspoken — but it’s still a night-and-day improvement over the original linear feel.
💶 Pricing Overview
| Modification | Product | Price (€) |

| TH8S Magnetic Mod (H-pattern) | 3DRap | 25 |
| TH8S Magnetic + Sequential Combo | 3DRap | 37 |
| TH8S Shifter Knob Adapter | 3DRap | 11 |
| Leather Shift Knob | Auto shop (not 3DRap) | ~7 |
| CSL Clutch Biting Point Mod | 3DRap | 32 |
These upgrades together cost a fraction of a high-end setup, yet provide a surprisingly big step up in realism and comfort.
🚛 Perfect for Sim Drivers — Not Just Racers
If you’re into ETS2, ATS, or BeamNG.drive, these mods are perfect.
For simulated driving, you don’t need a 400€+ load-cell pedal set or a pro-grade shifter.
With a few thoughtful modifications, you can transform your existing hardware into something much more immersive — for much less money.
3DRap’s mods are a great example of this philosophy:
💡 Modify what you have before replacing it entirely.
🏁 Conclusion — Affordable, Effective, and Worth It
After testing these 3DRap mods, I can confidently say they’re great value for money.
They make budget gear feel more premium, extend hardware lifespan, and bring back the fun of tinkering — something sim racing used to be all about.
